In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Thrive students and staff are commemorating the holiday on Monday, January 18, with a Day of Service. NO regular classes are scheduled this day, rather Thrive students and families will volunteer for organization or do a service activity of their choosing. This community service will count as your child's attendance for the day. Please return this form as soon as possible to confirm your service activity.
PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED! There are several ways you can participate in this special day.
JOIN THRIVE TEACHERS AND FAMILIES IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:
1. Mission Trails Regional Park San Diego
Activity: Beautifying the trails by placing wood chips. There is no limit to how many people are involved.
Age range: All ages
Time - 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
The East Mission Trails Park Entrance: 8440 Mast Blvd. Santee 92071(just off of the 15 & 52 East--at Equestrian Circle in 2nd the dirt parking lot) The Ranger in charge will put out cones so you know where to park.
Bring your own lunch. We will eat afterwards in the outdoor amphitheater.
If you plan on attending, please sign registration form and return to the office by Friday morning

2. YMCA - Copley Place
Activity: Come to the Y and help us honor our YMCA Senior community by serving them a special lunch.
Age range: 7th & 8th grades only
Time 11:15-2:15 pm
Location: 4300 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego
Lunch for volunteers and chaperones will be provided.
3. Ocean Beach Cleanup
Activity: Join Core 4 at the main lifeguard station in Ocean Beach for a beach clean up.
Age range: TK-8th grade
Time: 9:30 am – 11:00am
Location: Main Lifeguard Station at the end of Santa Monica Avenue in Ocean Beach
4. Make Personal Care Packages for the Homeless
Make small care packs of toiletry items for folks in need. (DONATIONS NEEDED)

5. Humane's Society
Activity: You can help by posting fliers of
animals in your local shelter who need a little extra help finding their forever home. All you need to do is print out the flyers and post them around your community. Coffee shops, staff lounges, community centers, libraries, and schools are ideal locations to get the attention of a potential adopter. 9. Another Volunteer Opportunity of your choosing--Just let us know!
Make a soldier's day by creating a card that shows your appreciation. Bring your cards to school and Thrive will mail them to the soldiers or you can adopt send a care package to a whole platoon. Operation We Are HereHoliday Mail for Heroes
8. 36th annual Martin Luther King Parade
(This is on Sunday, Not Monday)
Activity: Take the family or make it a date with other Thrive families and enjoy watching this amazing celebration.
Catch the MLK Parade as it marches down Harbor Drive on Sunday, January 17 at 2 p.m.
