Volunteer on MLK Day!

In the spirit of Martin Luther King Day and Thrive’s Community-Minded mission to build knowledge of self and others for meaningful collaboration and citizenship, you and your family are invited to join other Thrive classmates on this holiday by volunteering at any of the following events on Monday, January 18th.

 1. Mission Trails Regional Park San Diego

Activity: Trail clean up, cleaning signs, pulling weeds, nature walk and Ranger talk.

Age range: Kindergarten – 8th grade

30 Kids maximum (Will need 5 chaperones, plus parent contact.)

Time: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm

Location: 1 Father Junipero Serra Trail, San Diego

Notes: Bring your own lunch. We will eat afterwards in the outdoor amphitheater

2. YMCA - Copley Place

Activity: Come to the Y and help us honor our YMCA Senior community by serving them a special lunch.

Age range: 7th and 8th grade only

10 Kids needed maximum (Will need 2 chaperones, plus parent contact.)

Time: 11:15 am – 2:15 pm

Location: 4300 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego

Notes:  Lunch for volunteers and chaperones will be provided.

3. Ocean Beach Cleanup

Activity: Join Core 4 at the main lifeguard station in Ocean Beach for a beach clean up. 

Age range: – k-8

No limit on number of participants

Time - 9:30 am – 11:00am 

Location: Main Lifeguard Station at the end of Santa Monica Avenue in Ocean Beach

4. Make Personal Care Packages for the Homeless
Activity: Make small care packs of toiletry items for folks in need. (DONATIONS NEEDED)
Age Range:

No limit on number of participants

Time: 9:30 am-11:30 am

And if you can’t make it to a specific location on that day, how about helping out our fury loved ones who need homes...


5. Humane Society 

Activity: You can help by posting fliers of animals who need extra help finding their forever home.  Just print out the flyers and post them around your community. 6. Make Cards for Deployed Military Personnel

Activity: Make a soldier's day by creating a card that shows your appreciation. Bring your cards to school and Thrive will mail them to the soldiers or you can adopt to send a care package to a whole platoon.

Things for you to know:


  • Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes, bring sunscreen, snack and drink. 
  • Thrive families will drive on their own and meet at the above locations.


Participating in some service activity IS required. This is a learning day!
